  8. My first stint with Uncle had been at Gauri Bhabhi's marriage to Soma da when I was in Second standard at Ranchi. Uncle designed the car tag to be pasted on the windshields representing "GS" -"Gauri-Som", and I volunteered to fill the tag in red. Not sure of my precision and holding a paint-brush, Uncle still encouraged me; that Aha!moment and he trusting my skills was a prize for me. This nostalgic memory will always remain. A great beginning continued, and will continue...

  12. Sad news of my dear friend, Sudarshan's demise left me shocked and tremendously grieved. He has been a very dear friend our friendship going to 1953 from our Kanpur days. Whenever in Mumbai, I always used to meet him. When not meeting we used to keep in touch with each other. It was on 5th April, 2018 when I called him. Phone was received by Gouri who told me that har dad was sleeping. I chatted with her briefly and hung up not knowing that on next day itself he will go into eternal sleep. His graceful smile, his warmth and affection comes to my mind time and again. He was not only a celebrated graphic designer but a superb human being and a warm hearted friend as well. His death will leave a deep void in my life. I convey my heartfelt condolences to Gouri and Reva and all their near and deer ones. May his soul rest in peace...Jagdish

  22. The numbing feeling of this news will take time to fade...but what will never fade is the golden light of his soul.

Memories of my internship period at his studio are still afresh... I was taken aback by his passion, dedication, honesty, simplicity, generosity and most important of all humility. It was the magnetism of his light, that made me want to seek his advice, share every good news and continue to be in touch even after 8 years.

That ever-welcoming face of Dheerji and words of wisdom will always stay with me. Striving to be a better human being and being honest with my work, is the least I can do to do justice to the magnificent source of inspiration that he continues to be.

Dheerji wherever you are, you must know that we all have been very very grateful to have known you.

    Loads of Love,
    Your student,
    Ashvini.

  25. "Chana khaoge?" He asked gently. "Ji bilkul" I replied. "Toh aaj hum aap ke liye chana pakayenge", smiling at me- he moved on to the kitchen and we started discussing various ways of cooking chana.

As he deftly cooked, he continued to advise me on how to turn my futile efforts at cooking them to success. His were indeed a great success.

Post lunch- we launched into an animated conversation wherein he showed great interest in my life and all that I am. Not once did I feel that I had met him for the very first time.

The warmth and affection that he extended to me- a guest at Gauri and Somnath's home was natural, comforting and inclusive - not once was i conscious of the fact that this was our first meeting.

Uncle- anyone who came in touch with you will always remember your warmth and affection. May you rest in peace.

Gauri, Somnath, Sristhi, Reva, Douglas and friends - my heartfelt condolences and prayers.

    Regards

  26. I am very sad to to know that Uncle has passed away. In his large heart he always had space for everyone. His ready smile and affectionate words conveyed warmth and good humour. Despite being a stalwart in his field with great accomplishments, he would meet everyone, on equal terms. He would treat much younger people as friends. I consider myself fortunate to have received his kindness and blessings. Wherever he is, I am sure he is smiling down on his family and friends forever.

    Respectfully, yours

I am so honoured, have had the opportunity to be a member of the family in your personal life.
Every time I design a Mark, I check with your scale of quality and precision.
As a father your one advice i made it as resolution of my life, "Dream BIG, never compromise, work hard earn and fulfil your wishes".
I completely forgot how to compromise, reached few places where very few could go.
Your infectious and offectionate smile I shall remember all my life...
Miss you much your Green tea and warmth you pack into the conversations.
    Love you Uncle,

My dear Uma and all at the GCC office,
I share in your deep sense of loss! I will miss Dheersaab dearly...
I was hoping we could have had a retrospective of Dheersaab's work, and assumed we had time! Dheersaab always responded positively to the idea, and said that much of the material is all ready. I have been requested to write an article for Wire.in about Dheersaab's work. I would like to visit the office, if possible.

Please send me your phone number, Uma, and I will coordinate a good time with you and Gauri.

Warmest hugs to everyone at the office,

  35. ‘There are many art directors. There are a few good ones. One such is Dheer. But that is insufficient to the man. Some art directors specialise in looking like art directors by the way of the pink shirt, kooky lapel syndrome. Dheer looks like a shy Punjabi aspirant to the film industry. And he knows it. And he doesn’t care. He simply goes on presenting impeccable work. Without loosing good sense or good humour. And that makes him special. But he’ll be dammed if he’ll let you see it.’

A peaceful exit implies a great next birth and is privilege of a divine soul. One of the biggest achievement that overshadows every other materialistic one, is a peaceful exit. While there is surely a loss of roots, such peaceful exit should give you solace.
